Noreen Dinah Grossmith Obituary

noreengrossmithNOREEN D. GROSSMITH (nee MOORE) Born in Toronto, August 10, 1930, Noreen was the oldest daughter of Tommy and May Moore (deceased), wife of Phillip, mother of William and Gayle (deceased 1998), grandmother of Eric, Sarah and Samantha. Noreen (Grams), a talented multitasker and people-oriented person, lived the early part of her life in Regina, Saskatoon, Toronto, Fort William (Thunder Bay), Dundas and London and the majority of her life with her family in Markham, Ontario. She had an active business career while she and her husband raised their two children. Her love, guidance and home cooking and in particular, her goalie skills, were further developed when her grandson Eric belted pucks at her during road hockey sessions. Noreen’s business career with Eaton’s, Simpsons and The Bay spanned 40+ years and her exceptional fashion/people skills so impressed the owners (David Smith and Jack Creeley) of Mr. Smith’s Yorkville ladies boutique, that they offered her the manager’s job. Noreen enjoyed travelling with Phil to Newfoundland, Cornwall, UK, Finland, Sweden, the Bahamas, Baha and Mexico City, Eire and Hawaii – they especially enjoyed unique trips to ranches in the Alberta Rockies and to friends in Kelowna. For over 20 years, as an Auxiliary Member of the RCMP Veterans’ Association, Noreen was instrumental in the merchandising and packaging of Mountie memorabilia sold by the Vets’ Canteen at hundreds of Musical Ride venues in Ontario. Proceeds of over $500,000 were donated to local “Ride” sponsors and charities. Noreen passed away at Markham Stouffville Hospital September 26, 2016 on her 64th wedding anniversary. The family thanks Dr. Fernandez and especially staff, Ali and Andrea, whose support was outstanding.
