NEW PARK NAMED FOR FALLEN RCMP MEMBER
EDMONTON, AB – April 27, 2016 – Parkland County has announced that a new 50-acre park will be named after Constable Chelsey Robinson who tragically passed away on duty on June 21, 2010, near Stony Plain, Alberta. She was 25 years old.
Constable Chelsey Robinson Park – formerly known as Range Road 23 Park – is located on Range Road 23, south of Highway 770.
The Park is located right on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River with beautiful views over the river. The park is now open with a grand official opening celebration planned for June.
The public was encouraged to submit potential names for the new park last fall and was then asked to vote for their favourite name earlier this year. A total of 17 suggestions were received, ranging from honouring loved ones to fond memories of the area before it was converted to a park.
It was decided to name the park in memory of Constable Robinson.
Constable Chelsey Alice Robinson, Reg. No. 58586, was born April 22, 1985 in Picture Butte, AB, the town where she grew up. She graduated from Picture Butte High School as Valedictorian of the class of 2003.
She attended the University of Lethbridge and the University of Toronto, graduating with an Honours Science Degree in Forensic Biology.
After completing a two-year forensic assistant internship with the “K” Division Forensic Unit in Edmonton, AB, which was her final research project as a student in the University of Toronto’s ultra-competitive Forensic Science Program, she graduated from cadet training at “Depot” Division and became a Regular Member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on December 7, 2009.
She was posted to Stony Plain Detachment where she served for seven months.
At 12:45 am on June 21, 2010, Constable Robinson was alone in her marked police vehicle patrolling for a reported impaired driver when her vehicle was struck on the side by a transport truck at the intersection of Highway 16 and Range Road 15 near Stony Plain. Constable Robinson later died in hospital of her injuries.
Constable Chelsey Robinson is buried at the Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge, AB.
She is entered on the RCMP Honour Roll as #224.
We will remember her.
